PERFORMING ARTS INTERN

Volunteer Program Coordinator

 

Description

The Burlington Capitol Theater, located in downtown Burlington, Iowa is looking for an intern to join our team and take ownership of our Volunteer Program. The intern selected for this position should expect to interface with a wide variety of personalities and age groups and carry out their duties with diplomacy and gratitude.

The benefits to the intern are profound. A performing arts center cannot operate without a strong team of dedicated volunteers and their coordination is the key to a successful venue. You will be working with people who are giving selflessly of their time and talent; in return, they must be treated with the utmost respect and consideration. Skills for this position include: excellent interpersonal communication skills, attention to detail, respect for protocols and chain of command, the ability to work independently on important projects, and most importantly, a strong interest in the arts–specifically theater.

Responsibilities

Requirements

Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel. Excellent written and oral communication skills, excellent organizational skills, the ability to shift focus quickly and attention to detail are important. Qualified candidates should be able to work independently while maintaining a compassionate approach with team members. A strong interest in entering a position in the non-profit sector--the arts, theater, museums--is vital.

The Burlington Capitol Theater originally opened in 1937, ran as a movie theatre for 40 years and closed in 1977. Shuttered for 35 years, the theatre has recently undergone a $3,000,000 renovation and re-opened on June 1, 2012 as a regional performing arts center. Located in the heart of a downtown undergoing major revitalization efforts, the 370-seat theatre hosts live theatrical, music and dance events presented by groups ranging from local and regional artists to national and international attractions. The Capitol also hosts a movie series, spotlighting independent films, documentaries, foreign language works and classics. Adjacent to the theatre, The Annex at the Burlington Capitol Theater is a multi-use space that has been used for receptions, recitals and an extended lobby space for the main stage.

 


 


PERFORMING ARTS INTERN

Theater Management



Description

The Burlington Capitol Theater, located in downtown Burlington, Iowa is looking for an intern to join our team and learn the ropes of managing a performing arts center in the midst of a diverse production schedule. The intern selected for this position should expect to be involved in all aspects of theater management.

The benefits to the intern are exciting and important. They include working with a great team of art enthusiasts who care deeply about producing quality work, learning the day-to-day tasks of theater management, understanding the ins and outs of marketing vs. production calendars and experiencing some of the best performing arts in the region. In return the intern should bring essential skills to this position: a desire to learn, the ability to take direction, attention to detail, the ability to work independently on important projects, and most importantly, a strong interest in the arts–specifically theater.

Requirements

Excellent computer skills are a must, with experience working on the Web and in Microsoft Office Suite. Excellent research, written and oral communication skills, excellent organizational skills and attention to detail are important. Needs to be able to take direction well yet work independently with minimal supervision. A strong interest in entering a position in the non-profit sector--the arts, theater, museums--is vital.

PERFORMING ARTS INTERN

Production

 

Description

The Burlington Capitol Theater, located in downtown Burlington, Iowa is looking for interested individuals to join our team and work Backstage as Production Interns. The interns selected for this position should expect to be trained in a wide range of responsibilities and be given a variety of tasks.

The benefits to the intern are profound. You will be working with people who may be world-renowned and expect the highest level of professionalism. Their impression of this facility is greatly affected by your behavior and attitude, therefore skills critical for this position include: the ability to work efficiently and without conflict; the ability to take direction and fully understand the importance of protocols and chain of command; the highest level of tact and discretion; and most importantly, a strong interest in the arts–specifically theater.

Responsibilities

Requirements

Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds. Must be able to serve on a show-day crew from beginning to end. Must bring an adjustable wrench (crescent wrench, universal wrench, etc…) and work gloves. Willingness to climb ladders preferred but not required.

Description

The Burlington Capitol Theater, located in downtown Burlington, Iowa is looking for interested individuals to join our team and work as Marketing Interns. The interns selected for this position should be prepared to work in a fast-paced team environment, and will finish the internship having gained broad experience in various aspects of marketing.

Responsibilities

Requirements

Interns chosen for this position should have excellent verbal and written communication skills, with extensive knowledge of Web and social media. PowerPoint, Word and Excel experience is essential. All candidates must submit examples of their writing.

Description

The Burlington Capitol Theater, located in downtown Burlington, Iowa is looking for an interested individual to join our team and work as a Social Media Intern. The intern selected for this position should be prepared to work in a fast-paced team environment, and will finish the internship knowing they kept the theatre’s marketing efforts up-to-date and relevant.

Responsibilities

Requirements

Students applying for this internship should be Marketing/Business or Language majors, with 3 years of experience on the Web and a solid understanding of youth markets.
